The ACT course consists of 4 components: core lessons, topic lessons, practice tests, and online material. There are 16 core lessons, each 2.5 hours, that cover high yield test information. The 16 topic lessons, each 1.5 hours, focus on specific concepts and teach math concepts that you may need for the test but haven't learned yet in school. The 8 practice tests, each 3.5 hours, provide an objective way to assess study habits and progression through the course.

The online material consists of learning modules, the question bank, and thousands of explanations. The entire course is 86 hours and spans 2.5 months in the summer and 4 months in the fall.

Your cumulative ACT score is out of a total of 36 points. Each section (English, Math, Reading, and Science) is also scored out of 36. The average of your section scores gives you the composite value and is considered your overall ACT score.

An average of 30.5 is rounded up to 31. Otherwise, scores round to the closest value.

The essay is scored out of 6 by two separate graders. These scores are added up to give you your final essay score which is out of 12 points

A majority of schools only look at the cumulative score and do not look at your essay score at all. Schools that look at the essay will evaluate your cumulative score and essay score separately when considering you for admission.

The ACT will provide a second grammar score that incorporates your essay score, but this combined score is generally overlooked.

Each college has different score requirements for the ACT. You can find these score requirements by visiting school websites and looking at admission profiles from the previous years.

However, you shouldn't look at the average or median score for a school and make that your "goal" score. If your score is the median value among applicants, this means that 50% of the applicants scored higher than you did. This should demonstrate how the median or average is not a very "safe" as a score to have in applications.

Our median final ACT score is 30 points.

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS

The College Admissions course will be held in the spring, starting Spring 2025.

The College Admissions course is a combination of group classes and one on ones. The group classes serve to teach basic writing principles and provide essential core information for the development of a good application. The one on ones serve to personalize the application for the student by concentrating on details specific to the applicant. To augment this process we incorporate online edits to help polish the application.

Yes. Because essentially the PSAT and SAT are the exact same test. The only difference is the absence of the essay on the PSAT, and it’s a bit shorter. Otherwise, they test the same material, have the same structure, and require the same technique. The PSAT exam is only offered in fall and will be used to qualify for the National Merit scholarship in a student’s junior year. PSAT’s in other years are merely for practice.

If your goal is admission to a top-tier or ivy league university, then we recommend both. Here’s why:

  • Students may be better at one test than another, maximizing their test score potential.
  • Preparing for the SAT allows students the chance to compete for PSAT National Merit, second only in achievement to a perfect score.
  • Some public schools mandatorily report the SAT test on student's transcripts so be sure to check on this with your school.
  • The ACT and SAT each require a different skill set. By studying both, students can identify where they’re strongest and combine their skills for the best possible score.
  • Students get to see the same material in different ways, enhancing learning.
  • Increased scholarship opportunities.

But really, the statistics tell all. We tracked a year’s cycle of test takers to develop this evidence-based conclusion that the highest achievers generally took both tests.

In general, there are a lot of misconceptions about how the two tests are perceived in a side-by-side comparison, but ultimately both tests carry equal weight. All four-year institutions accept both tests and use a conversion system to compare applicants. That said, every institution in the country gives special consideration to PSAT National Merit, which a student can only achieve through taking both the PSAT and SAT.

If you really want a competitive edge, take both tests.

It is very hard to tell which test would be better for a student. It is analogous to selecting a sport for a child and telling them to become a superstar without witnessing their development. In short, taking a practice exam can help students figure out which exam they like but not necessarily which one suits them. Unfortunately, the pACT is a highly unreliable predictor of future ACT performance. The PSAT is a great predictor of SAT performance but the reported percentile should be ignored.

Of course! Our classroom is an equal-opportunity environment. We only ask that you come with a goal and the commitment to grow. The building-block structure of the course allows the instructors to assess your strengths and challenge areas early on in order to create an individualized approach to closing the gaps.

Unfortunately, we do not currently meet parents individually before enrollment occurs. We do, however, believe that clear and comprehensive communication is part of every enrollment process. We welcome you to call and have an enrollment consultation with any member of our staff. For certain seasons we try to offer a parent orientation session after enrollment occurs but prior to the start of the session.

You can enroll in any course by clicking the enroll button online. Note that the Summer and Fall enrollment opens in January of the given year.

If you don’t see any enrollment options, enrollment for the next season is not open yet (if you're looking 6+ months early) or classes may currently be full (if you're looking up to a few months before the course). If you have any questions email us at help@kabirsprep.com or call us at (248) 973-7452.

Our enrollment does fill up very quickly. But to reduce stress, we offer an early enrollment process that you can sign up for on our website. This process allows you to enroll a few days ahead of the general enrollment. Anyone can take advantage of this process as long as they set up their account and sign up for it. As people register, we split up the interested individuals into three different waves. Each wave is allowed to enroll on a date and time before our general enrollment.

After early enrollment is over, any remaining spots in the course will fill up at general enrollment. Our courses do fill up very quickly, but having approval for early enrollment means that you can get a spot in the course you want as long as you enroll at the time your wave opens. We cannot guarantee that you will get a spot with early enrollment. It is still up to you to use your preferred access before all spots are taken at general enrollment.

We also cannot guarantee a spot for a specific class (like class A, B, or C, for example). If you need a specific class time due to a busy schedule it is important to be ready at the time your wave opens to secure it. If you can't enroll for the class that you want, you can enroll for another and submit event change requests once the Student Portal opens. These event change have over a 90% approval rate, as long as they are submitted with adequate time before the event in question.

SAT/PSAT

10 Articles

The advantages of becoming a PSAT national merit scholar are numerous:

  1. Special recognition on college applications. Most college applications have a spot to specially mark if you are a national merit scholar. Additionally, most of your peers will not have the same distinction as you setting you apart from them.
  2. Scholarship opportunity from NMSC (National Merit Scholarship Corporation). Becoming a finalist will automatically enroll in a special scholarship opportunity offered by the corporation itself and corporate-sponsored scholarships which you can look for on their website: http://www.nationalmerit.org/.
  3. Scholarship opportunity from colleges. Many colleges will prefer applicants with PSAT national merit status. Some colleges will even offer a full ride to applicants with such achievement. For example, in the past, Wayne State has offered all PSAT national merits full or half rides for achieving such standing.
  4. Preferred admission to some specialized programs. There are programs in the country that strongly prefer national merit applicants and will invite them more than any others to interview or attend their school. For example, Alabama Straight Medical program will invite PSAT national merit applicants over any other to interview for their accelerated medicine program.

There are two score reporting methods: Score Choice and Report All Scores.

Most universities follow the Score Choice method. For these schools, students can elect to send only their best scores and do not have to send in any others. Some of these schools include Harvard University, the University of Michigan, and Michigan State University.

Schools that follow the Report all Scores method require students to send in all official test scores through the testing organization. For these schools, we recommend students to have no more than three official exam scores. If students are signed up for the exam and would rather take the test later, the best decision is to take the exam and immediately cancel your score (instead of canceling the test altogether). This provides a valuable testing experience that can help a student do better on future tests. Examples of universities that require all scores include Georgetown and Yale.

Keep in mind that most schools, including those mentioned above, have implemented temporary score policies to accommodate those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. For this reason, it is very important for students to research the schools they are interested in by reading official admissions policy found only on the school website.

PSAT national merit is a competition student engage in by taking the PSAT in their junior year. Their score on the PSAT is the first obstacle to entering the competition.  Each state has their own score requirement that students must achieve to surpass to the next level in the competition. For example in recent years in the state of Michigan students who achieved a 219 or above out of 228 on the PSAT were declared quarterfinalists for the national merit competition. Their performance in school, on the SAT, recommendations from their teacher, and an essay they had to write judged whether they would ultimately be finalists. You can find more information about the advantages of the PSAT and requirements on the following website: http://www.nationalmerit.org/.

The PSAT, or preliminary SAT, is a smaller version of the SAT exam that students will take during their high school career. The exam itself can be taken every year, but will only count during the junior year. The PSAT is a shorter exam and doesn’t have an essay. The exam is also out of 228 index score and 1520 points. Unfortunately this exam will only be significant for a student if he/she achieves a PSAT national merit score his junior year. If he/she fails to achieve such a score his PSAT score is not reported to colleges. Students who do achieve such a score though have earned a great distinction as very few students from each state actually do meet this score benchmark, helping to distinguish applicants from each other.

LIVE ONLINE CLASSES

If you are enrolling into a Live Online course, plan on attending all of your events online without the option to attend in person.

We have designed the courses to be equal in all aspects other than the class setting. For this reason, any preference for one over the other completely depends on the student. We have offered 100% online since July 2020 and we have perfected the online class model. Some students focus better in person, and some focus better from the comfort of their room. This is why we offer two course options, so we can adapt to students and their individual needs.

Beyond the class setting, there is no difference between the two courses. Both courses have complete access to our powerful online student portal, which contains question explanations, learning modules, assignments, and many other features.

Students will have all of their events (lessons & practice tests) conducted through Zoom at their scheduled time. Half an hour prior to the start of class, a Zoom link will appear on their student portal and they will be able to log in.

Zoom links are unique and only available through the portal.

We have offered 100% online since July 2020, and we are excited to announce that we have seen the same increases in scores as we were seeing in person!

We have been working hard to develop new and exciting features that help improve the students' experience including:

- Online modules to help students to learn/practice any unfamiliar concepts

- Explanations to all practice test questions along with most homework questions

- Weekly homework that will be checked by our staff to ensure understanding

- Practice tests being proctored through Zoom

- Staff monitoring students progress

Homework will be assigned all online. We will assign Learning Modules, Question Bank Sets, and Practice Sections.

Online Learning Modules

We have written sections for each subject on the test that includes articles, examples, quizzes, videos, and complete explanations. Our AI grading system will track engagement levels (how long students spend reading each page, when they log, how often they log in, total time spent , and accuracy trend). Based on these variables and inputs, we can generate and effectively grade performance and effort. The grade is completely objective based on the above criteria.

Custom Written Question Bank

We have written 3,000+ custom questions in our Question Bank. We will assign preset tests as well as students will be able to create tests to focus on their weaknesses.

Parents and Students will receive email reports over every assignment so everything is easily tracked.
